  • Australia and its people

Part 1 of Our Common Bond covers Australia’s story: First Nations peoples, early settlement, federation, national symbols, and important days. These facts appear often in the citizenship test.

  • Democratic beliefs, rights and liberties

Part 2 explains the democratic beliefs that underpin Australian society: parliamentary democracy, the rule of law, living peacefully, and freedoms such as speech and religion.

  • Government and the law in Australia

Part 3 covers how Australia is governed: the Constitution, Parliament, the Prime Minister, courts, state and territory governments, and how laws are changed.

  • Australian values

Part 4 covers Australian values such as freedom, respect, equality and a fair go. These questions are critical: you must answer all five values questions correctly to pass the official test.
