Dates and years to remember for the citizenship test (2026)

Many Australian citizenship questions ask about important dates. Memorise these first, then lock them in with a timed mock test.

   Federation — the colonies united to form the Commonwealth of Australia.

   26 January

   Australia Day — marks the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788.

   25 April 1915

   Anzac Day — remembers the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli.

   1902

   Women won the right to vote in federal elections (with some exclusions at the time).

   1962

   Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples gained the right to vote in federal elections.

   1967

   Referendum allowed the Commonwealth to make laws for Aboriginal people and count them in the census.

   27 May to 3 June 1967 period / 1967 referendum

   Often tested as the year Australians voted overwhelmingly to change the Constitution regarding Aboriginal people.
